Deal with the Money Devil

Deal with the Money Devil is a game about taking on debt with a powerful devil to fuel the power you need to finally get rid of the pact with that same devil. Moneyphisto, as it is called, gives you something you truly desire in exchange for some of your wealth whenever you use that power. Over time, you ended up losing everything and falling into debt with the devil, who now uses your pact to send you on odd jobs. Whoever you were before, you're now a lost soul working for the money devil.

The game is played with one player taking on the role of Moneyphisto and the game's narrator, describing the world and the job you'll be taking. Every other player plays one of the unfortunate people who made a deal with the money devil and are now trying to survive their immense debt. Whenever you face something in the game that you can't solve with human capabilities, it's time to use your power. The GM will give you a monetary cost for solving the current situation and, if you accept, you divide that cost amongst the players using poker chips.

But beware, any player can try to betray the group and purposefully get you into trouble rather than help take on the debt. If they do so, the devil even removes some of that player's debt, as payment for the fun this is creating. If you want to break your contract with Moneyphisto, you'll have to betray your friends at some point… Or complete jobs without ever using your powers, if the devil even allows that.

That's all the rules. You're ready to get together with a group of friends and write a story of people who've lost everything, but their determination to get out of this situation. Moneyphisto doesn't like to lose pawns, so you'll have to work together to get out of this, then betray your friends at the last moment.

This game was originally planned for the "Shit Or Get Off the Pot: A Solo Game Jam", until I realized that the name meant games played by one person, not designed by one person! Faced with this massive mistake, I decided to run my own solo-dev game jam where I design and release 10 imperfect one-page Tabletop RPGs as a solo game designer in a month. Maybe that'll become a real jam one day!
